Sermon Series beginning January 13
Beginning January 13, we will begin an 8 week sermon series titled “No Apology”, which will help equip us to “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect” (1 Peter 3:15NIV).
The Christian faith is under very strong attack today by a new breed of atheists, who are sometimes called “evangelistic atheists”, because they are very motivated to spread their teaching and philosophy. Our children and grandchildren are the ones who are hearing their message, and we need to be able to defend the Christian faith before others.
So this sermon series will help us to do a number of things. It will help us:
- To be prepared. Peter reminds us that we should be ready to give a defense of the faith. That requires preparation. We cannot be intellectually lazy.
- To give answers. We cannot defend the faith if we don’t know what we are talking about.
- To express the hope of the Gospel. If you have an atheistic mindset, then your hopes for this life are fairly limited. Naturalistic assumptions cannot provide a morality or values. We exist simply because we exist, and there is no ultimate purpose to our lives. People need the hope of the Gospel.
- To learn to express our convictions with “gentleness and respect”. Christians haven’t always done this, and we can do better.
So bring your Bibles and questions and join us beginning January 13, at the 8:00 am and 10:45 am worship services.
