Pastor's Message

Pastor Sommer came to Light of the Hills in February of 1997.  He lives in Cameron Park with his wife, Beth, and two children Abigail and David.  Please read Pastor's Biography.

Are you 20/20?

Have you had your eyes checked lately?  As I get older, I become aware of how important it is to see clearly.  The last time I had an eye exam, it became apparent that my vision wasn’t what it once was.  I needed a new prescription for contact lenses.  After receiving the new lenses, it was a joy to get used to seeing really well!  I could see detail on trees and buildings, even at a distance.  I could make out the words on highway signs well before the exit.  It was great, and helped me to be more confident in any number of activities.

How well do you look at the world?  I’m not talking about contact lenses or glasses, but about what is called a worldview.  A worldview is a way of looking at life and what it all means.  A person with a worldview influenced by Hinduism, for example, will see life as a almost never ending cycle.  A person with an evolutionary worldview will see human beings as highly evolved animals, but nothing more.

One of the great things about Jesus is that he helps us to see ourselves and this world very clearly in His Word, the Bible.  There we learn that we are God’s creations, made in his image to take care of and manage his earth.  We also discover that we are sinful people, who have made a mess of relationships, the environment, sexuality, money, and many other things.

What Jesus wants us to see most clearly is that He has given us a new start.  He offered Himself as a sacrifice for our sin, so that we could be forgiven.  His death means that our deaths don’t have to be permanent.  His resurrection means new life for us, too.

Here at Light of the Hills, we know that we need constant help in seeing life clearly.  Thanks be to God that he has opened our eyes to His loving forgiveness.  If you would like to talk to me about this, please email me at.  God sees a bright future for you!
